Is God Poison?

Hey all! Amy here. And no Derrick, this is not an illusion, I really am blogging!! Ooooooooooo. Aaaaaahhhhhh.

This past Friday, we looked at the Maclean's article published in mid-April entitled "Is God Poison?" Our discussion began by looking at the differences and similarities between "God" and "religion", and whether they exist as separate or combined entities. We next discussed how individual interpretations of the Bible may "skew" the truth of the Word, and attempted to define what forms of ideas classify as "misinterpretation" of the Bible, regardless of their favourable or non-favourable nature to the norm. Finally, we breifly (and perhaps indirectly) discussed who is to blame for the "misuse" of the Word--religion? God? God/religion? Human error? These questions are still open for discussion and generate opportunities for personal reflection. *hint, hint*

Because of our lenghtly discussion (courtesy of Norman Young), we were unable to finish our analysis of the article and will continue on this coming Friday. Some future questions that may by discussed are listed below, so get your thinking caps on!

• Do we instill religious terror in our children?
• Do you believe religion claims a special divine exemption to "evil" acts?
• Do you think religion limits personal choice/freedom on an individual, national, and internationl basis?

By exploring the above questions and similar questions in greater depth, we may be able gain a greater understanding of why our world is victim to such "poisonous" acts, as the article claims.

So that basically sums up last Friday's program. I know this blog probably isn't as lengthy as all of Derrick's but I'm really, REALLY NOT a blogger...sorry!! Hopefully this will suffice for some of you blog-hungry addicts out there.

In the meantime, DON'T FORGET TO THINK ABOUT LEADERSHIP POSITIONS FOR NEXT YEAR.
