Hey Alias,
For those of you that couldn't make it to small group, here's a lil summary on what we did:
We watched a movie and ate popcorn. The end.
Actually... we did a bit more, so as usual, we met up at church and watched the movie: Children of Men in Titus Hall. We ate lots of popcorn and apparently, the sound of the bag and crunching annoys Dr. Wong MD. After the movie, we had a brief discussion.
We discussed:
How we felt about the movie: Most of us thought the movie was quite well done. Sam thought it was really good. Selina liked it so much, she watched it again!
Our thoughts on the ideas from the movie: for those of you who have not seen this movie, I will try not to ruin it for you but....
Danielle mentioned: the deaths in the movie meant pretty much nothing because the people could not reproduce.
Darren's favourite part was when the baby's crying silenced the battling for a brief moment of time.
Amy wonders what disease could cause such a problem, to which Derrick answers POS.
Sam brought up how the problem was global and happened simultaneously, it did not spread from one area. It can reflect how the environment is a global issue, and how it is happening all over the world, not specific to a region.
Nancy wonders if this will ever happen to us? Looking at the current population and such, will we somehow destroy our ability to reproduce due to exposure to all the chemicals?
Selina said.... crap.. I forgot what Selina said.. but she really liked the movie.
We looked at the themes in the movie: it can be compared to the birth of Christ. We looked at the idea of terrorism, to have freedom requires one to protect it, but to what extent?
We also compared the movie to V for Vendetta. We looked at what was going on in the world, many scenes reflected the war on Iraq. Frequent bombings, uprisings, torturing "terrorists"
After the movie, Sam, Darren and Derrick went to Congee Queen and shared a delicious meal of fried spicy squid, ying-yang fried rice and Cantonese chow mein. Sam then kindly drove Derrick to Kennedy Station where he was not stabbed and arrived safely home to post this blog!
Hope all of you that couldn't make it are doing well! Good luck on your exams guys!!
Derrick
